M and I went to a screening of "Sideways" at the Directors Guild Theater in Manhattan. After the movie, there was an open discussion with the main actor, Paul Giamatti, and one of the screenwriters, Jim Taylor. Thomas Haden Church was supposed to be there, but his plane was delayed.
We both enjoyed the film. It was not the best movie of all time or anything, but I laughed throughout. I didn't feel that I got to know the characters very well, but I enjoyed the "falling apart" of the friends' relationship. I have had several similar relationships where you really have nothing in common with this person, other than history. Sounds like family, right?
The discussion afterwards was interesting, but I think it would have been better if more of the cast had been there. More lively or something.
